Wow! It has been a while since I have blogged! Updates on my life: I have now been "ordained" by my parents to be a "minister", I am going to California in 6 days, my first order of business as a "minister" is to come up with a program, and just living life to the fullest everyday! I have been dealing with what I think is depression but I cant really talk to anyone about it because "that's not an issue that church people have".

Pinterest in the Classroom
Pinterest is a great resource for teachers because they are able to share and glean ideas from fellow educators. For example, there is a 23 year Arkansas veteran educator that has experience with classroom organization, but there is a novice teacher in Florida who lacks that concept. The veteran educator may have posted a pin that will assist the novice teacher in getting her space orderly.
C.1.2.3 Explain the functions of government using local examples D2.Civ.5.K-2
The activity for this SLE is to compose a Google Slide using Google. The slide has to include at least 1 page introduction, 3 pages of information, and 1 source page if needed and have an adult check for spelling and grammar errors. The other requirements are as follows:
Correct grammar
Correct spelling
Correct information
Work well with partner
My Project:
1) I thought about what layout I wanted and put in the title and author in the designated spaces.
1) I thought about what layout I wanted and put in the title and author in the designated spaces.
2) Then I looked on google to find information about Local Government and clicked on the Congress for Kids website. This will be the only source I use through the duration of this assignment.
3) I copied and pasted the information from the website to the Google Slide.
4) I then went back to the website and copied the information for the Legislative Branch...
5) ...And pasted it on the Slide.
6) I did the same for Judicial Branch...
7) ...And paste
8) I copied the link to the page...
9) and used the option under the "Insert" tab
And now I am finished with the Google Slide.

Wordle- http://www.wordle.net/
This is an easy-to-use way of getting your words to take a particular shape. The cool thing about this tool is you can copy and paste or simply save it to your desktop. The more words you use the better the image will look.
This can be used in my future Geography class by having the kids find 50 facts about a continent and have them create a wordle in the color scheme of its flag. This will help the students learn about geography and technology.
WebQuest-http://www.webquest.org/
WebQuest is a guided scavenger hunt on the web. It allows the student to utilize their critical thinking skills in answering certain questions. All the information the student needs is on the page.
This Web 2.0 tool can be used in the classroom by the creating a WebQuest for America. This can be used as end of the chapter assessment or the end of the unit assessment.
This Web 2.0 tool is easy to use for both the student and the teacher. With this tool the student must create a blog. With this tool the student can incorporate pictures as they please.
The student will be able to freely write on any assignment given throughout his/her course. This tool will enable them to be free in their writing skills and will be able to be as creative as they would like to using pictures on each blog.
Khan Academy-https://www.khanacademy.org/
This is a fun and interactive site that students will not get tired of. This Web 2.0 is focused on the student’s learning through various ways including games, lessons, and videos. The site is very organized in the subjects but simplistic in the design of the webpage.
Khan Academy can be used in my classroom to reinforce what’s been taught that day. It will also be used to grasp and hold attention, through colorful games, of students that may struggle with staying focused.
MIT Open courseware-http://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/humanities-and-social-sciences/
“This course was offered through the High School Studies Program (HSSP), a project of the MIT Educational Studies Program. HSSP offers non-credit enrichment courses to 7th-12th grade students on weekends at MIT” according to ocw.mit.edu. This website is great for learning because you have some of the smartest people in the US teaching the students! Also, the students will hopefully obtain a need to do better in life to accomplish their goals and be the best they can be.
MIT Open courseware can be used during the summer to “warn” students of what the course during the school-year will be like. Also, the students can go to the website for help with something. It will be a resource to the class.
This form of Web 2.0 is a collaboration of colleges than came together to offer high school students to earn AP credits online. This website offers AP course options in a variety of subjects. Not only does it teach the student about the subject it also test them on it too!
This may be used in a class by way of offering it as a resource or as something the students may want to do and complete. Or this may be used over the summer for the “over achievers” and they can help guide the class with learning the material.
Edmodo-://www.edmodo.com/
This Web 2.0 is set up a lot like Facebook and Google Sites had a baby. It has groups that students you can put the students in and a library for research. Students can even post in edmodo, not just words but pictures too!
Edmodo is the future of the classroom! I will use edmodo as a secondary source to post homework to eliminate most excuses for the child not having his/her homework. Edmodo will be used to sharpen online skills in which I will use to collect homework.
Dropbox-https://www.dropbox.com/
Dropbox is a tool used for submitting work. It keeps is all safe so you can access it from anywhere on any device. It works on the student’s college readiness by submitting work on-time.
Dropbox will be used to give students an option of not having to carry a jump drive around with all important documents/assignments. Dropbox will diversify the students.
YouTube-https://www.youtube.com/
YouTube is a well know website but not many people knew it was considered a Web 2.0. YouTube is a great resource for students to learn about the lesson and to upload their presentations if they are too shy to do it in class. The students will also be able to learn things though other videos.
YouTube will be used to allow the students limitlessness ways to be creative. YouTube will also be used as an alternative teaching tool to reinforce what they have been taught, possibly in a much simpler way.
Mind Map Art- http://www.mindmapart.com/
Mind map art is a brainstorming tool that turns your mind maps into art. With this Web 2.0 my students will not get tired of thinking of things to fill this map. The colors are so bright and vivid.
This is a way to keep my students interested in mind mapping. With doing mind mapping in my classroom I hope the paper I assign will be of the necessary length and hold the readers interest.

The Downfall of Yik Yak Threat made on Yik Yak
"Like any other social networking site or application, a growth in the number of users generally correlates with a rise in "trolls" — individuals who post deliberately provocative messages in order to incite disruption and arguments. This theory has proved to be true for Yik Yak, and while it is somewhat easy to police, it is also very difficult to identify the specific troll and make them responsible for their comments." (http://www.theodysseyonline.com/uva/downfall-yik-yak/73018)
I agree with this article because Yik Yak has gotten out of control in the last few months. Everyone that I am antiquated with has a "Yak". One associate 'got put on the "Yak"' for sleeping with another associate's boyfriend. Yik Yak has its place but it should not be used to expose the personal life of people. There has been threats made on Yik Yak to campuses across the nation. They thought because the cite is anonymous, the police will not find out nor catch them, but in this case the person that made the threat was coughs and charged. A few days later another threat was made on a different campus. I wonder if the two were connected. The perpetrator this time was caught but not arrested. On the campus of University of Central Arkansas located in Conway, a threat was made on the campus. The article did not state what king of threat it was but a threat is a threat. I feel as if Social Media is a weapon that needs to be destroyed. too many people are killing themselves over something they saw on Social Media. All we can do as Americans and as parents, is pray the situation does not get worse in the next few years. The parents need to keep tabs on their children from the time they are born till they are 18.

Introduction
First of all welcome to my Blog.
My name is Ruth Black. I am a 22 year-old junior at Henderson State University
from Lansing, Arkansas. I want to become
a Teacher because my mother is a teacher and I would love to change a child’s
life. I love to cook, clean, if I’m in a dirty place, and meditate. I am good at keeping babies. My parents
are still living. My mother just opened an early childhood learning facility.
My father is a retired Highway police and a pastor of a church (hence the name
"Twice Baked" PK: preachers kid and police kid). They had 10 children
together but unfortunately there are only 6 of us now. Let's start from the
oldest and work our way to the youngest. My oldest brother has his own company.
He has 2 children and a fiancé. The second child is my sister; she is happily
married with two children and also has her own business. The third one is
single but she is still young. She is a counselor at a college. The fourth is
married with no children. He has his master’s degree. The fifth is single. He
too is young and still has time for the right person to be revealed. Lastly,
you guessed it, there is me, still in college. I'll graduate eventually. As of
right now I am unsure as to what I would like to do with my life. All of my
life the decisions have been made for me by my parents and siblings. Now that I
am in the real world, where I am forced to make my own choices, it is very hard
adjusting. People say “I guess it true what they say about PK’s” and I respond “what?”
and they reply “PK’s are the worst”. In my opinion, it is the mindset of the PK’s
that is the worst and deadly, I have contemplated suicide and acted on it. However, I am in the process of healing from
it and becoming a better person. They may say that us “PK’s” are some of the
worse kids’ but we just like everyone else are normal and struggle with the
everyday aspects of finding ourselves and I Ruth Black am finding myself!
